In 2024, Illinois reported an estimated 89,770 abortions, a 70% increase from 2020. An estimated 35,000 out-of-state patients traveled to Illinois for abortion services in 2024. This represents about 39% of the total abortions performed in the state.
In January 2025, Planned Parenthood of Illinois announced the closure of four clinics in Englewood, Ottawa, Decatur, and Bloomington. These clinics did not provide procedural abortion care but offered medication abortions. Despite these closures, 13 other Planned Parenthood clinics in Illinois remain open.
